It is an official record. With a population of around 340’000, Iceland are the smallest country ever to reach the FIFA World Cup finals. This feat is no fluke either.

Having only stumbled at the last hurdle of qualification for the 2014 tournament, Iceland then took Europe by storm, playing their way to the quarter-finals of the UEFA EURO 2016. But what lies behind this staggering development?

We will speak to two of the main architects of Iceland’s success over the last years, head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson as well as Technical Director and Head of Education of the Football Association of Iceland, Arnar Bill Gunnarsson. Together we will trace Iceland’s football heritage, revisit paths taken and discuss how far the journey could go.

Join us for an insightful talk full of history and expertise laced with personal anecdotes and stories!

The one-hour talk will be hosted by Emmanuel Bucher in English. At the end of the talk, the audience will also have the chance for a short Q+A with our guests. The entry is free of charge.
