FIFA Museum Conference

The Annual FIFA Museum Conference has been established in 2020 as a regular two-day summit once every year. Its goal is to bring key figures of national football museums and cultural initiatives from all 211 FIFA Member Associations together to safeguard football heritage and culture.

Initiated by Marco Fazzone, Managing Director of the FIFA Museum in Zurich, the conference invites representatives to share knowledge, encourage the active exchange of ideas and experience, create collaborations and joint projects and provide support between peers internationally.

The vision of FIFA 2.0 is “Making Football Truly Global”, and FIFA supports the FIFA Museum’s initiative to organize the conference on a yearly basis for national football museum directors and cultural initiative representatives. The FIFA Museum believes it has a responsibility to fans globally to support the preservation and protection of football heritage and culture, including documenting football history and identifying opportunities to reflect on and increase the visibility of the different individual national football cultures.

For the first edition, which was hosted digitally due to the Covid-19 pandemic, nine key figures participated from around the world. The selection criteria for the initial year included – thus, invitations went out to – museums and cultural initiatives from all countries whose FIFA Member Association have previously won the FIFA World Cup™ or the FIFA Women’s World Cup™.

The second International FIFA Museum Conference brought together digitally over 60 of FIFA’s member associations for the first time to further the development of football heritage and culture. This marks a significant step forward in establishing ongoing cooperation, building up a network for safeguarding football culture and heritage globally, where the FIFA Museum, member associations and their national museums can continue to share knowledge and work towards joint initiatives.
