New pop-up exhibition: Prisca Steinegger - My life, my career

2023 is the year of women's football. Before the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023™ kicks off in Australia and New Zealand in mid-July, the FIFA Museum will host an exclusive pop-up exhibition on the life and career of Prisca Steinegger starting on 4 July.

The former captain of the Swiss national team and official FIFA Museum Ambassador started playing football at a time when kicking a ball was considered exotic for girls. Nevertheless, she made it all the way from her grandparents' backyard into the national team. She won 55 caps for Switzerland's national team and even captained the team in the last four years with them.

Born and raised in Zurich, Steinegger made her first appearance in the Swiss Cup final in 1993, when she was just 16. Two more finals followed in 2005 and 2006, before she won the cup in 2007, by then as captain of FFC Zurich Seebach. Also in her trophy cabinet: two Swiss championship titles (2008 and 2009) and an award as Swiss Footballer of the Year for the 2002-03 season. Steinegger has been working for FIFA in various roles since 2001 and is an official FIFA Museum Ambassador since 2022.

The pop-up exhibition looks at the life and career of Prisca Steinegger from a personal and sporting perspective. Visitors can look forward to an exclusive selection of objects from Prisca Steinegger's private collection. In addition, as part of the digital experience, visitors can enjoy four videos, produced exclusively for the FIFA Museum. In these videos, Steinegger recalls her own career as a player, but also discusses the general development of women's football.

The pop-up exhibition on Prisca Steinegger opens 4 July 2023 and closes 20 August 2023. It is open to all museum visitors with a regular admission ticket to the permanent exhibition.
