The FIFA Museum collection has been enriched by two valuable objects of Australian football history. Former Football Federation Australia (FFA) board member Heather Reid presented FIFA Museum Director Marco Fazzone with two of Elaine Watson’s blazers at our special exhibition in Sydney last Friday.
Elaine Watson, who passed away a few weeks ago, is considered one of the pioneers of Australian women's football. One of the blazers dates from Watson's time with the AWSA (Australia Women's Soccer Association), when she was manager of the Matildas and president of the association. The second blazer is from her time with the Oceania Women's Football Confederation, for which she served as president.
We are proud to have received these history-making items during the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup Australia & New Zealand™ in our special exhibition "Calling the Shots: Faces of Women's Football" at the FIFA Fan Festival™ and can’t wait to exhibit them soon.
