Special guided tour: Football and the media

FIFA Museum Seestrasse 27, 8002 Zurich German

CHF 10

Football and the media have always been closely connected. Join former TV and radio commentator Beni Thurnheer on an exciting media journey through time at the FIFA Museum.

The history of the FIFA World Cup is also a reflection of the evolution of the media: from little to more and more, from local to global, from purely informative to entertaining. Football-specific expressions such as the 'Wembley goal' or the 'hand of God' found their way into common usage. Using selected objects from the FIFA Museum exhibition, former television and radio commentator Beni Thurnheer shows the close entanglement of football and the media.

In 1930, at the first FIFA World Cup in Uruguay, not a single European journalist sat in a stadium. What will it be like at the next World Cup in Qatar in 2022? How much space in the stadium will the press box take up then? And what about radio? What has changed since the first World Cup almost 100 years ago?

Beni Thurnheer

Beni Thurnheer awaits you for an exciting media journey through time spanning almost a century.

Bernard "Beni" Thurnheer attended ten World Cup finals as a radio and television commentator from 1974 to 2014, commentating on eight Finals for television. This enabled him to experience first hand the fundamental changes the media sector has gone through in the last decades. During the guided tour "Football and the Media", he will be able to draw on a wealth of experience and share many an anecdote from behind the scenes.
