Argentina is the FIFA World Cup™ defending champion, having lifted the trophy for a third time in 2022. It has also been runner-up on three occasions, including at the inaugural edition in 1930. La Albiceleste has earned a record three Golden Ball awards since the accolade was introduced in 1982, with Lionel Messi being the only player to win it twice.
