The special exhibition Innovation in Action: Football Technologies on and off the Pitch explored how technology is supporting football – from the pitch to the broadcast booth and beyond.
Developed in close collaboration with FIFA Innovation, the exhibition explored the evolving relationship between people and technology in football. Visitors were able to immerse themselves in digital experiences and innovations direct from the pitch. They discovered five core themes: Broadcasting and Media, Intelligent Data, Refereeing and Fair Play, Staging the Game, and the Innovation Lab, where they could bring their own ideas to life.
How technology brings every aspect of the game together
Visitors were able to dive into the technology that drove everything, from the big screens to the condition of the pitch. Once the game gets underway, information is a key component for coaches, analysts, officials and fans. From the ball to the players themselves, if it is on the field, technology tracks it.
Visitors were invited to step into the Referee Review Area and make the call themselves. They learned how the refereeing team use technology to make fast, accurate decisions while maintaining transparency for players and spectators.
Visitors relived the moment football first entered living rooms in 1954 and saw how far it has come. From early radio commentary and cameras from the 1954 FIFA World Cup to today’s 4K live-streaming apps, they explored the innovations that have connected fans across generations and continents.
Innovation in Action: Football Technologies on and off the Pitch offered a behind-the-scenes look at the technologies supporting football and invited visitors to experience the game through the eyes of a referee, broadcast director, football analyst and more.
