Last week, 2014 FIFA World Cup™ winner Mario Götze visited the FIFA Museum presented by Hyundai at Rockefeller Center in New York.

As Brand Ambassador for Hyundai Germany, Götze explored the exhibition, taking time to examine the displays and learn more about the stories behind some of the museum’s original objects. He was accompanied by a delegation of German fans and influencers.

During his visit, Götze took part in an exclusive guided tour before joining a 15-minute Q&A session in front of the FIFA World Cup Original Trophy. The event gave fans and media the opportunity to hear first-hand from one of the defining figures of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

One exhibit attracted particular attention: the boots Götze wore during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Reflecting on seeing them in the museum, he described it as “an honour” and said the display brings back memories of the tournament every time he sees the boots or watches the winning goal again.

“It had a huge impact on my career and everything I experienced after that,” Götze said. “We played in Brazil, a very enthusiastic country. To score the winning goal in the final and lift the trophy is something I’m very proud of. It’s great to be here in the museum.”

Götze scored the winning goal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final against Argentina, securing Germany’s fourth world title. Over the course of his career, he has represented clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, PSV Eindhoven and Eintracht Frankfurt, winning multiple domestic league and cup titles. A Germany international for more than a decade, he earned over 60 caps and remains one of the country's most recognisable footballers of his generation.

The exhibition at Rockefeller Center continues to welcome thousands of visitors every day, making it one of the most vibrant gathering places for football fans during the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
